Having trouble deciding whether or not you should be using an essential oil diffuser? In today’s hectic fast-paced world, so many of us are looking for a way to find some inner peace, improve our overall health, and the one that is the hardest for many of us to achieve, a more restful sleep, or maybe its as simple as just wanting to add a pleasant smelling fragrance to our homes.

Diffusers And Aromatherapy

Aside from smelling really nice, essential oils are also good for us. Diffusers are the simplest and most commonly used way in which to maximize the way we can benefit from essential oils through aromatherapy. Aromatherapy uses highly concentrated natural oils that are extracted from roots, flowers, leaves, bark and other parts of plants that can help restore and enhance psychological and physical well being.

When we inhale essential oils, aromatic molecules are absorbed through our nasal membranes and travel directly into the limbic system in our brain. The limbic system controls emotions and memory and communicates directly with the hypothalamus, which regulates the autonomic nervous system ( breathing, heart rhythm, secretion of hormones, and all other unconscious functions ).

Diffusers offer you the ability to fill a space with the pleasant aroma of essential oils. With some types of diffusers, you will be able to see the essential oil vapors being released, and with others, it will be invisible. With so many essential oils available in the marketplace today, diffusers are a good way to try and experiment with several different kinds of oils and aromas in order to achieve your desired mood and level of wellness.

Types Of Diffusers

Evaporative Diffusers

An evaporative diffuser uses a fan that blows air through a filter that has essential oils added to it. When the air passes through the filter it causes the oil to evaporate a little faster than normal and is then blown out into the room.

Nebulizing Diffusers

A nebulizing diffuser doesn’t require any heat or water. Instead, it uses a small amount of electricity and works by means of air that is pressurized within a glass reservoir. The air is forced through a small tube inside the base of the glass. This pressure creates a suction which forces the essential oils to rise upwards. As the oils rise, a stream of pressurized air joins with the oils and causes it to turn into microscopic particles that fill the glass reservoir. These microscopic particles are then released out of the glass in the form of a waterless mist into the atmosphere. Because nebulizers do not use water, they produce a more potent mist that quickly delivers the essential oil into the bloodstream.

Humidifying And Ultrasonic Diffusers

A humidifying and ultrasonic diffuser is the most common type of diffuser. This diffuser works by combining water and essential oils to create ultrasonic vibrations. These vibrations then release essential oil molecules into the air in the form of a cool, dry mist. The diffuser will release a continuous mist until the water runs out. This type of diffuser comes in many different colors and styles and usually includes a built-in timer that allows you to control the amount of time you want or need it to run.
