Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer

Dyson is a British technology company established by owner James Dyson in 1991. Dyson designs and manufactures household appliances such as vacuum cleaners, hand dryers, bladeless fans, heaters, and hair dryers like the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer.

The Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer was the most awarded hair dryer in 2017 and for good reason, Dyson has the somewhat annoying habit of designing and developing ridiculously expensive products that actually work. Dyson engineering is second to none and the engineering that went into this hair dryer was extensive and thorough. James and his team wanted to dig deep and really understand how to look after hair. They found that damaged hair absorbs water more quickly than healthy hair, which can weaken it.

Hair dryers haven’t changed much since the 60s and what Dyson discovered was that conventional hair dryers were being held back by big, bulky motors and could cause irreversible damage. So, Dyson took 1,010 miles of hair and 103 specialists that consisted of scientists, engineers, and stylists that looked at everything from airflow dynamics to hairs cellular structure in order to understand thermal, mechanical and chemical damage and their effect on hair health.

Dyson research showed a clear correlation between healthy and shiny hair. To keep hair looking healthy, it has to be protected from extreme heat. Temperatures above 302°F cause irreparable damage, so Dyson developed Intelligent Heat Control. Adding a glass bead thermistor in front of the heating element meant that Dyson could measure the exit airflow temperature 20 times every second and prevent temperatures exceeding 302°F.

Final Thoughts

It’s no real secret that Dyson products are wildly expensive, but with Dyson, it’s simply a matter of “you get what you pay for”, and Dyson products actually do what they claim. The amount of research and engineering that went into the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer is impressive, to say the least, allowing this out of the ordinary hair dryer to be more efficient and deliver consistent results without damaging your hair.

The team at Dyson is a stubborn but dedicated bunch that are not willing to accept convention, so they built 600 prototypes before finally deciding on one that works. Each one taught them something about how they could make it better and closer to a revolutionary invention.

So, if you are someone who takes haircare seriously and money isn’t too much of an issue, then the brilliantly engineered Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer might just be what you’re looking for.
