For anyone, looking and feeling your best is a definite confidence booster but a lot of the time it seems like an incredibly complicated and expensive process, but it really doesn’t have to be. Most of us, however, only need to pay attention to a few simple beauty basics that can help us look and feel like a million bucks without spending a lot of time and money.
Beauty Basic #1: Choose The Right Cleanser For You
If you’re a soap and water kind of girl or guy, you might want to change how you go about cleansing. One of the best beauty tips according to dermatologists is to use the most gentle cleanser you can find but use it sparingly.
Even though most of us are tempted to wash our faces several times a day ( more if you have oily skin ), over cleansing won’t help and if you’re using harsh products like soap, you could be damaging your skin.
If you wash your face more than twice a day then you could be damaging the natural lipid barrier which is the protective layer of lubrication that helps keep our skin looking and feeling healthy. Once that protection is gone and the integrity of the skin’s barrier is disturbed, your skin becomes dry and it can crack, peel, burn, itch, sting, or any combination of these. It can also lead to premature aging that makes us look older than we are.
Simple solution. Wash your skin no more than twice a day and choose the right cleanser that suits you and your skin type.
Beauty Basic #2: Moisturize
It’s true what they say, ” You Get What You Pay For” and whether you have oily, dry, or normal skin and you can only afford one skincare product then spending some money on a good moisturizer will be money well spent.
In most cases, all you’re going to need is a quality moisturizer and mild cleanser. So, when we wind up with dry skin every wrinkle is highlighted, making us look older. Let’s say for example you’re in your 20s or 30s, doctors say moisturizers will help give you some of the protection you need in order to keep your skin from prematurely aging.
If you’re in your early 20s or 30s, a really good moisturizer can actually replace a lot of products, but what qualifies as a really good moisturizer? Well, it can be a product that will do anything from gently adding moisture to sealing in that moisture or helping your skin produce more of its own moisture, and whichever one you choose it should be based on your skins individual needs.
So, if your skin is normal to dry, you should be looking for moisturizers containing alpha hydroxy acids. These can help your skin produce more moisture on its own. If your skin is very dry, then maybe look for products that use technology called vesicular emulsion. Vesicular emulsion uses microscopic spheres that are alternating layers of moisture and water that slowly release throughout the day, therefore creating constant moisturization. And if your skin is oily, then simply look for a light, gentle moisturizer but don’t skip this step. Since oil is not moisture and even with oily skin you still need to moisturize.
Beauty Basic #3: Sunscreen, The Best Anti-Aging Product
Before you go and buy some expensive anti-aging cream, in fact, before you do anything put on some sunscreen. We all know that using sunscreen will help reduce the risk of getting skin cancer but using sunscreen can help keep our skin looking young. Using sunscreen helps block out the suns damaging rays which can cause premature aging of our skin. The sun has a direct impact on our skins ability to produce collagen and without collagen, your skin won’t be able to naturally maintain that youthful, plump, moist, wrinkle-free look. Too much exposure to the sun and before long your skin will start to wrinkle long before its time.
Without sunscreen to help protect your skin it will take just a few minutes each day of exposure to the sun and over the years you will start to notice a change in how your skin looks and feels. Not only will you see more fine lines and wrinkles, you will also start seeing more age spots, freckles, and even spider veins. Your skin can also look loose and slack and leathery all thanks to the sun.
Always use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher since the sun breaks down its effectiveness over time, and if you plan on being in the sun for an extended period, reapply sunscreen every hour or two. Another option would be to use to use sunscreen before you put on any makeup, then for touch-ups use a clear or transparent mineral powder to help add extra protection throughout the day. The nice thing about these powders is they contain a natural sunscreen, and since they really don’t build up on the skin you can keep on adding protection all day long.

Beauty Basic #4: Change Your Hair And Makeup Every Two Years
According to experts, if you can’t remember when the last time was you changed your hair or makeup, then your way overdue. When we make the effort to keep ourselves looking current we simply look younger and more modern, nothing dates a woman more than outdated hair and makeup.
So, if it’s been some time since you’ve made a change, then visit the makeup counters at your favorite beauty or department store, and always feel free to ask for help and advice.
Beauty Basic #5: Always Use The Right Tool For The Job
Anyone can spend a ton of money and buy the most luxurious foundation, or the best eyeshadow, or maybe even a bronzer right out of the cosmetic bag of a supermodel. However, if you don’t have the right tools to apply them then you won’t be getting the full benefit of those products.
So what determines which tools are the right tools? Let’s talk about brushes, for example, they should be soft and feel gentle on your skin. If you dip a brush in a shadow or a blush and the color falls off before it even makes it to your face, then that’s a bad brush according to experts.
